Is Apple Changing iPhone Displays Again?

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is set to introduce a new display technology in the next generation of the iPhone to fix the issues reported with the iPhone 5’s in-cell display, according to a report in The China Times. Apple has brought on Taiwanese LCD maker Chimei Innolux to manufacture the panels for the new smartphone by using something called touch-on displays.

While the in-cell touch panels of the iPhone 5 helped Apple reduce the width of the phone by combining the touch sensor and display into one component, users reported problems such as the screen ignoring touch input if swiping too fast. According to The Chines Times report, production issues related to the in-cell technology had also led to the much-publicized supply constraints seen by the iPhone 5.

The alternative technology from Chimei Innolux will allow Apple to retain the smaller width of the panel while allowing for durability as well as better touch sensing capabilities, the report added.
