Is Apple Readying a NEW Retina Device?

While Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) unveiled a whole new MacBook lineup last Monday at its Worldwide Developers Conference, the highlight of which was the new 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display, further additions to the MacBook family might be just around the corner.

An industry insider has indicated that Apple will now focus on bringing its Retina display to 13-inch MacBook Pros, with a release expected sometime this autumn, with October ventured as the most likely month for a release. A new iPhone 5 is also expected out in October.

Apple’s successfully launched two 15-inch Retina notebooks last week — supplies were exhausted within the first few days of availability, and now buyers are being told it will be weeks before new their recently purchased computers will ship. KGI analyst Ming-chi Kou has ventured that the Cupertino-based company will not intensity production efforts of a smaller model, after testing demand.

Like the 15-inch models now available, the 13-inch model is expected to lack an optical disc drive, instead relying solely on SSD flash memory storage. It is also likely to feature an Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) Ivy Bridge processor and a clock speed of more than 2GHz, says Kou, and will be even thinner than the 15-inch MacBook Pro — less than 18mm, in fact. Of course, the smaller screen size means resolution will probably be scaled down to 2,560 x 1,600 pixels.

While no photos or leaks have given evidence to such claims, Kou notoriously has a deft hand at predicting Apple’s moves — he accurately prediction the dissolution of the 17-inch MacBook Pro. He is also predicting that the next iPhone — the iPhone 5 — could be as thin as 8mm.
