Is a Permanent Fix for Boeing Batteries in Sight?

Following the grounding of the entire fleet of 787 Dreamliner aircraft in mid-January, Boeing (NYSE:BA) has announced that the proposed solution for getting the planes in the air would be a permanent one — as the manufacturer works feverishly to keep the planes in service.

The plagued 787 project has had nothing but setbacks, right up until last week. Earlier in the year, fires aboard two of the aircraft prompted a grounding of the entire fleet in service, or about 50 of the revolutionary planes. In efforts to redesign the lithium ion batteries, Boeing even ran into trouble when it could not ship the test units from Japan to its factories in Washington.

After managing to navigate around that hurdle, it seems like it the worst of the situation is over. Randy Tinseth, vice president of marketing for Boeing, told aviation financiers at a conference that the solution being put in place to solve the combusting battery problem was permanent, and would be put in place on all of the aircrafts, present and future…
