Intel Makes a Play for Emerging Markets

According to sources from PC players, Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) is set to come out with a 10-inch tablet codenamed StudyBook that will adopt the same sales model as its Classmate PC.

The StudyBook will target emerging markets like Brazil and China and will also include Intel’s Medfield platform and dual-operating systems. It is set to be released in the second half of 2012, and Intel hopes to sell the product through retail stores for under $299.

Elitegroup Computer Systems is expected to manufacture the StudyBook while China-based Malata will also receive orders from Intel.

Intel stocks dropped just under 1 percent Tuesday afternoon to $28.11.
