In the month of July, Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX), Burger King (NYSE:BKC), Sprite (NYSE:KO), Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), and McDonald’s (NYSE:MCD) advertisements on social networking sites generated 1.65 billion impressions, the number of times the advertisement is displayed. In total, impressions from the 100 top consumer brands amounted to 10.6 billion.
A report compiled by media industry economic tracker PQ Media and social media audience measurement firm uberVU found these brands dominate social media conversations related to the top 100 consumer brands and account for the greatest number of impressions.
In the report’s ranking, Coca-Cola (NYSE:KO), Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), Google (NASDAQ:GOOG), Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN), and Samsung take top billing, but Starbucks ranked sixth with 382 million impressions. Burger King came next with 317 million impressions, then Sprite with 303 million, Microsoft with 285 million, and McDonald’s with 272 million.
It may not be surprising that the most recognizable brand names have the greatest number of impressions, but the report does show the massive boost social media gives to advertising.
