More Apple Goodies That ROCK

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) unveiled a new iPod touch on Wednesday alongside the next-generation iPhone, with the music player featuring the same 4-inch screen of the new smartphone. The new iPod touch also adds Siri support, is 6.1 millimeters thick, weighs 88 grams, and includes a new wrist strap. It sports the new 9-pin Lightning connector of the new phone and runs on an A5 processor, giving it dual-core chip power and 40 hours of music playback or 8 hours of video.

The music player now comes in five colors — raw aluminum, black, blue, yellow, and red — and has a brushed aluminum back. The wrist strap, called the iPod touch loop, is also available in matching colors. The new device has a 5-megapixel iSight camera that is back illuminated and can shoot 1080p video with image stabilization. The back camera also adds the panoramic photo feature of the iPhone that allows wide images and image stitching. The device’s front-facing FaceTime camera has 720p video functionality.

The iPod line got another new entrant with the redesigned iPod nano, which now has a 2.5-inch multi-touch display and features the home button of larger iOS devices. At 5.4-millimeters, the device is 38 percent thinner than its predecessor. It also features Apple’s new smaller Lightning connector for iOS devices. The new nano will launch in October and sell at $149 for a 16 GB model. The player will be available in seven colors: aluminum, black, purple, green, blue, yellow, and red.
