Healthcare Business Roundup: Science Equipment Makers On Watch Due To Spending Cuts

Makers of science equipment are being impacted by the reduction of spending in academic institutions, Says Peter Lawson at Mizuho. Shares of Affymetrix (NASDAQ:AFFX) plummeted on the warning, and the effects could filter through other academically-exposed names, such as Life Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ:LIFE), Illumina (NASDAQ:ILMN), Fluidigm Corporation (NASDAQ:FLDM), and Thermo Fisher Scientific (NYSE:TMO). Mizuho still recommends AFFX as a Buy on valuation, but it is trimming estimates.
