Healthcare Business Review: ViroPharma Gets FDA OKAY, Aetna’s New ADDITION

NeuroMetrix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NURO) attains FDA approval to market its Sensus Pain Management device in the domestic market and its shares move up in reaction. The device is intended to be used as a transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator for the symptomatic relief and management of chronic intractable pain.

ViroPharma Incorporated (NASDAQ:VPHM) reports that the FDA has okayed its supplement to the Cinryze Biologics License Application for industrial scale manufacturing changes. As announced earlier, the firm expects that it should take around six weeks for the labeling of previously produced vials, which will then be allowed into trade.

Aetna, Inc. (NYSE:AET) has come to an agreement regarding a new contract with Memorial Hospital at Gulfport, which will add the facility and its physician group to its network. Terms of the contract allow members of AET’s commercial plans to receive covered services at in-network rates from both the Hospital and its physicians’ clinic.

Shares of the biotech company Exelixis, Inc. (NASDAQ:EXEL) fell on Monday on news of plans to hold back-to-back public offerings. Exelixis will offer, subject to market conditions, 20 million common shares and a total of $225 million worth of convertible senior subordinated notes that will become due in 2019.
