Golden Globes: 10 Best Motion Picture Nominees

It’s that time of year again. Nominees for the 2014 Golden Globe Awards have been announced, with a total of 10 films making the cut for Best Motion Picture — five in the Drama category and five in Musical or Comedy. Let’s take a look at the competition.

1. 12 Years a Slave

Starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Brad Pitt, and Michael Fassbender, 12 Years a Slave follows the life of a free Northern black man, Solomon Northup. His story begins when he is seized and taken south into enslavement. Fassbender plays the antagonist slave owner to Ejiofor’s protagonist, and Pitt comes in as the abolitionist who plays a key role in Northup’s life.

Fassbender was nominated for Best Supporting Actor, and Ejiofor was nominated for Best Actor. Steve McQueen was nominated for Best Director, and a number of others involved in the film received nods from the Golden Globes.
