Increased traffic during the holiday season, estimated at 13%, leads FedEx (NYSE:FDX) to hire 20,000 seasonal workers. Just for perspective, on Monday, December 10, FedEx expects to move about 19 million shipments through its system, the busiest day in its history. According to the company, the increase in traffic on that date, known as “Green Monday”, is fueled by e-commerce routing shipments to FedEx Ground and FedEx SmartPost networks.

Siemens (NYSE:SI) is beating a retreat from the solar industry. ”Due to the changed framework conditions, lower growth and strong price pressure in the solar markets, the company’s expectations for its solar energy activities have not been met,” Siemens said on Monday, according to Reuters. The company is already in discussions with potential bidders and the sale would leave it with only the wind and and hydro-power businesses in renewable energy.
