Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM) will look into the cause of an oil mist release at a northern Illinois refinery in October and come up with a plan to ensure it doesn’t recur. Attorney General Lisa Madigan said on Thursday that an agreement between her office, Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow and the company is in effect. The oil mist was accidentally released from the coker unit at Exxon’s Channahon Township refinery on October 19th and fell onto farms, homes, and a creek within a four-mile radius. The firm was given 14 days in which to complete its investigation; it must report how much and what type of pollutants were released, provide results of water and sediment testing from a nearby creek and describe how it will clean up other properties.
