Solazyme (NASDAQ:SZYM) and Bunge (NYSE:BG) have broken ground on a 100,000 metric ton renewable oil production facility, that is next to Bunge’s Moema sugarcane mill in Brazil. The companies report that construction began on schedule, and the facility is expected to be operational in the forth quarter of 2013.

A BP (NYSE:BP)-owned compression station in Colorado was the scene of an explosion that is said to have killed one worker and seriously injured two others. A a local company spokeswoman, reports that the facility is now shut down and there is no remaining threat to workers or to the public.

Gevo (NASDAQ:GEVO) shares pop following Monday‚Äôs news that it will partner with BioFuel Energy (NASDAQ:BIOF) in the pursuit of large-scale isobutanol production. CEO Patrick Gruber of Gevo commented that, “We have the potential to be at the forefront of the advanced biofuel market. BioFuel recognizes this potential and has agreed to explore a possible retrofit of their assets to produce isobutanol.”.
