Energy Business Review: Anadarko Hits OIL In Ghana, Siemens Gets CONTRACT In Texas

PetroChina Company, Ltd. (NYSE:PTR) along with its partners Total S.A. (NYSE:TOT) and Petronas Calgari report that oil production of 100,000 barrels per day has begun at the giant Halfaya oil field located in southern Iraq.

Royal Dutch Shell (RDS.A) is in discussions with Anadarko Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:APC) regarding a potential offer for the latter’s gas assets in Mozambique, according to Bloomberg. Shell initiated the talks for some or all of its 36.5 percent investment in the Rovuma-1 offshore gas fields, but Anadarko is reportedly hesitant to divest before further exploration results in the area are known. Separately, Anadarko is reporting a new discovery lying off the coast of Ghana in 1,926 ft. of water: The Wawa-1 exploration well hit 43 net feet of oil and 65 feet of gas condensate. Further, the firm says that the discovery “extends the presence of hydrocarbon-bearing formations more than six miles to the north of the Enyenra-3A well”.

Siemens A.G. (NYSE:SI) and its consortium partner Bechtel Group are awarded a $300 million contract to supply and service equipment for a natural-gas power installation in Texas. The station will have a capacity of 758 megawatts and should provide electricity to 750,000 homes when it comes on line in two years from now.
