Energy Biz Report: Shell CHARGED In Singapore, Ascent Solar’s New PARTNER

Wastewater-treatment company Heckmann Corporation (NYSE:HEK) will acquire the privately held Power Fuels in a $381 million cash and stocks transaction. The purchase should reinforce Heckmann’s position in the area of fracking, for which it supplies equipment and water.

The government of Singapore has charged Royal Dutch Shell (NYSE:RDSA)(NYSE:RDSB) for safety lapses that led to a major fire at the firm’s 500,000 barrels per day refinery in 2011. Shell would be liable for a fine of up to 500,000 Singapore dollars, or US$401,700, for the breach if it is convicted.

Shares of Ascent Solar Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:ASTI) hit the heights Tuesday on word that it is partnering with Silent Falcon UAS Technologies and Bye Aerospace in an arrangement to supply photovoltaics for solar-powered unmanned aircraft systems.

More bad luck in Singapore, as an offshore production and storage vessel being constructed for Petrobras (NYSE:PBR) was damaged by fire during testing last week, an event which might delay the development of the Bauna and Piracaba fields. The company has been beset with several delays in the building of new drilling rigs and production platforms, along with maintenance shutdowns at offshore platforms; the difficulties have undercut PBR’s crude oil output during the entire year.
