Disney’s Happy Oz Weekend and 2 Media Stocks in Focus

Disney (NYSE:DIS): Disney’s Oz: The Great and Powerful was released on Friday and saw a $80.3-million domestic opening. ”We are happy that the movie seemed to land with audiences — and a broad spectrum of the audience,” Sean Bailey, head of production at Walt Disney Studios informed LA Times. “We are pleased families [and] the general audience seemed to turn out and enjoy the movie.” The film has a cost of about $235 million, which is slightly less than John Carter, which cost $250 million, and the 3-D film has been marketed as a prequel to The Wizard of Oz, the 1939 film that was made at MGM and is now owned by Disney’s rival Warner Bros (NYSE:TWX).
