Dish Network Wins Pittance in Breach-of-Contract Claim and 3 Media Titans on the Move

Dish Network Corp. (NASDAQ:DISH): Closing price $34.70

A federal jury found the sports network ESPN liable for only one breach-of-contract claim made by Dish Network Corp. and awarded Dish $4.86 million, a small chunk of the $152 million it was hoping to be awarded. In a unanimous ruling, the 10-member jury in Manhattan found ESPN liable for breaching a 2005 licensing agreement by allowing rivals to pay lower rates for ESPN Deportes, a Spanish language channel, without presenting the same offer to Dish. This award comes at a time of increasing competition between distributors and program producers in the entertainment business.
