Dish Blamed for Voom Failure and 4 Media Titans Making Waves

AOL, Inc. (NYSE:AOL):  AOL Inc. entered the mobile gaming market with a social video guessing game that is available on Apple’s iPhone. This game uses voice recognition technology to stop players from cheating.

Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX):  Netflix, Inc. has updated their iPad app with a “Just for Kids” version of their streaming service. The new app will allow users to only  browse  through content that is kid-friendly. Titles like Thomas the Tank Engine, Power Rangers, Curious George, Bob the Builder, and Arthur are available in the newly launched channel.

Coinstar, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSTR):  After the market closes on October 25, 2012, Coinstar, Inc. will report their financial results for the third quarter of 2012. Coinstar’s earnings  and prepared remarks reviewing the company’s financial results and guidance will be available on the Investor Relations section of the company’s website at www.coinstarinc.com.

Walt Disney Co. (NYSE:DIS):  According to AllThingsD, the Walt Disney Co. will be unveiling a new site that will deliver digital content called Disney.com. There will be content from Disney theme parks, TV channels, movie studios, Pixar and Marvel.

Dish Network Corp. (NASDAQ:DISH):  According to Bloomberg, Charles Dolan, founder of Cablevision Systems (NYSE:CVC), told a jury there is  no question that their HD-TV service called Voom would have made money if Dish Network Corp. hadn’t terminated their fifteen year broadcasting deal. In the lawsuit, Dolan testified that AMC made a statement claiming that after two years, Dish wrongfully ended their TV programming contract and left them with massive losses. AMC is seeking $2.4 billion in damages from the broadcasting company.
