DIRECTV’s New Monthly Surcharge, CVS Keeps Kodak Kiosks: Consumer Business Update

The satellite broadcaster DIRECTV (NASDAQ:DTV) has discretely placed a monthly surcharge of $3 on some customers for sports channels separately on a number of its most popular programming packages. The company’s new subscribers that reside in regions in which there are more than one regional sports network such as News Corporation’s (NASDAQ:NWS) Prime Ticket and Fox Sports West, and Time Warner Cable’s (NYSE:TWC) SportsNet, and who want those channels are being asked the surcharge, on top of whatever portion of the costs of the channels that DIRECTV passes on to its customers.

On Friday, Judge Allan L. Gropper of the United States Bankruptcy Court in Manhattan approved a resolution that will allow more than 15,000 of Eastman Kodak Co.’s  (EKDKQ.PK) photograph-printing kiosks in CVS Caremark Corporation’s (NYSE:CVS) retail stores to remain there until 2017. Through the terms, the eventual buyer of Kodak’s personalized imaging business doesn’t lose CVS, which is the biggest customer for its kiosks.
