Dick’s Sporting Goods (NYSE:DKS) has responded to the shooting tragedy at a Connecticut school by removing certain firearms from their stores. The former has removed all guns from the store closest to the incident and suspended nation-wide the sale of modern sporting rifles.

Walmart (NYSE:WMT) has pulled the Bushmaster semi-automatic, the weapon used in the Sandy Hook tragedy, from its shelves.

Australia’s draconian anti-smoking laws may be emulated by the EU, at least in part, according to a report by Reuters cited by the Wall Street Journal. Draft proposals include larger health warnings on cigarette packs and a ban on flavors such as menthol. Individual EU governments may also choose to insist on plain packing, such as in Australia, carrying graphic health warnings. The news has caused tobacco stocks to slump with Reynolds (NYSE:RAI) -2.01%, Altria (NYSE:MO) -1.39% and Lorillard (NYSE:LO) -2.89%.
