Consumer Business Update: Yum PUSHES Into China, Wal-Mart & Others’ New LAYAWAY Plans

Yum Brands, Inc. (NYSE:YUM) might be inspired by the morphing in China of Pizza Hut and KFC into upscale locations, as it continues its own drive into the country. Observers believe that Yum’s revenue from China could double sales in the United States within five years.

Early holiday shoppers will be targeted by certain retailers with an array of new layaway plans. Toys “R” Us (TOYS) will offer free layaway for several of its products, while Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE:WMT) and Target Corporation (NYSE:TGT) have also come up with new plans. For its part, Sears Holdings Corporation (NASDAQ:SHLD) will offer vacation packages available on layaway from its travel site.
