General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) resorts to advertising on MTV to help it improve its battered reputation amongst the millennial sector. A company executive remarks that GM’s reputation on college campuses isn’t all that, although an unemployment rate above 8 percent makes him wonder “if beggars can be choosers?” Sounds as if he has never tried to buy a new car on unemployment benefits.
Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE:WMT) intends to market a new crop of genetically modified sweet corn that was created by Monsanto Company (NYSE:MON) at its stores, commenting that it sees no “scientifically validated” safety reasons that require restriction of the product.
Anheuser-Busch InBev (NYSE:BUD) will shut down a large brewery in Russia. Cost reduction is one reason for the move, but it seems that stricter government regulations on the sale of alcohol in that country also impacted the decision. Doesn’t Bud know that these laws come and go there?
A minority-owned Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) affiliate in China intends to purchase Taiyuan Changan Heavy Truck for an unreported amount. The acquisition will represent Ford’s entry into the world’s largest heavy-truck market.
