Consumer Business Recap: Apple’s iPhone 5 Shortage Explained, Wal-Mart’s Holiday Pick

The weekend shortage of iPhone 5s might have been partly caused by Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) use of in-cell screen tech in the device. In-cell screens combine the display and the touch sensor, and are more difficult to make. It’s said that Sharp Corp Ltd (SHCAY.PK), one of Apple’s three screen providers, is experiencing such issues in particular.

Nissan Motor Co. (NSANY.OB) intends to launch 10 new models in India before the year 2016 with at least 2 under its reinvigorated Datsun brand. The firm wants to double its sales in the country this fiscal year and boost sales by 10 times 2011′s level within 4 years.

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE:WMT) has selected the LeapPad 2 for its top holiday toy list which is made by LeapFrog Enterprises Inc. (NYSE:LF). Shares of the latter jumped on the news, which is good for the firm since its growth engine is driven by content and demand for its LeapPad products.
