Consumer Business Review: GM and Ford Will SHUT European Plants, Costco SUED Over Patent

As a part of its strategy to bring profitability back to its sites in Europe, Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) will restructure its operations there, and also shut down a factory, which might be its facility in Belgium that employs 4,000 persons, according to the Wall Street Journal. At the same time, General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) is in discussions with labor unions so that it might close an older site in Bochum, Germany, as it contends with issues similar to those of Ford.

Liberty Media Corp. (NASDAQ:LMCA) is thinking over its options as it gets close to full control of Sirius XM Radio Inc. (NASDAQ:SIRI). If shareholders expect a quick spinoff of the latter, they might have to wait, as Liberty Media Chief Executive Greg Maffei remarks that there is “no rush”.

Costco Wholesale Corporation (NASDAQ:COST) must now deal with a federal trademark infringement lawsuit brought by the furniture maker MyHaven. The latter alleges that Costco sold a line that duplicated several non-functional features of its own designs.
