It may seem counterintuitive, but Costco (NASDAQ:COST) views the current trend of more states loosening their restrictions on selling alcohol as a bad thing. The problem is that laxer laws allow more forms of competition from more and more diverse sellers. Costco is the largest domestic alcoholic beverage retailer, and would prefer that politicians to keep a tight reign on licenses.

More recalls at Toyota (NYSE:TM), as the company adds two more Lexus SUV models to its list, this time in response to unintended acceleration tied to gas pedals and floor mats. Toyota has hit the skids in 2012 in this regard, with far more recalls than its rivals.
Coty’s decision to file for an IPO is probably the end (for now) of any acquisition of Avon Products (NYSE:AVP), as its S-1 implies that it will most go very slowly with purchases for a while. Shares of AVP rose on Friday, but still are below where they stood before Coty passed on buying Avon for $10.7 billion.
