Barnes & Noble Inc. (NYSE:BKS) will launch two high-definition versions of its Nook tablet prior to the crucial holiday shopping period. The 7-inch tablet that is priced at $199 and a 9-inch version at $269 are at or below prices for new offerings from competitor Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN). Chief Executive William Lynch reports that the retailer has placed its biggest device orders thus far as he fully anticipates that company will increase its market share by Christmas.

Kohl’s Corporation (NYSE:KSS) will open 12 new stores along with investing in its current store base through remodeling. However, 11 of the 12 stores will have a smaller format with under 64,000 square feet of retail space

Shares of RadioShack Corporation (NYSE:RSH) trade a bit higher on the day, following word of the immediate resignation of its chief executive who will be replaced on an interim basis by Chief Financial Officer Dorvin Lively. The firm has posted two consecutive quarterly losses and cuts its dividend while shares have plunged by 73 percent so far in 2012.
