Consumer Business Recap: Wal-Mart Extends Its LAYAWAY, Casino Stocks Up On REPORTS

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE:WMT) reports that it will extend its Layaway program to between September 16 and December 14th. This program now includes an expanded list of eligible categories along with full refunds of the layaway open fee that will be awarded on Walmart gift cards for customers who make their final payment.

Two separate factors are pushing up some of the casino stocks. Shares of Las vegas Sands Corp. (NYSE:LVS), Wynn Resorts Limited (NASDAQ:WYNN), and MGM Resorts International (NYSE:MGM) were all up in varying degrees Monday on word that airport traffic into Hong Kong reached records highs in July, and that ITG reports that local weather patterns in Macau have outweighed the growing Las Vegas numbers.
