Las Vegas Sands Corp. (NYSE:LVS) is being hit with yet another inquiry, as a new one involves an alleged breach of United States anti-bribery laws in mainland China concerning a real estate payment, sponsorship of a basketball team, and a ferry deal, says the Wall Street Journal. Already in play are investigations alleging money laundering and another pointed at the company’s Macau casinos.

Recent slides in sales are prompting the resurgence of summer discounts at major restaurant chains such as McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD), Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. (NYSE:CMG), and Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX). The companies now say that they will concentrate on value to offset recent sales slumps, but analysts caution that when the industry majors begin to increase their discounts and deals, it places a “world of hurt” upon the industry as a whole.
Macy’s Inc. (NYSE:M) will now compete with Amazon and eBay more directly, utilizing a new order fulfillment that will enable its stores to ship items and thus reduce delivery times for customers quite significantly. It might be that Macy’s is seeking to position itself as the first company to achieve the “holy grail” of online shopping, which is same-day delivery.
