Consumer Business Recap: Amazon Gets Into SKATEBOARDING, Wal-Mart INVADES Canada

Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) turns a new page, as it announces that for the first time it will sponsor an athlete. Decorated skateboard pro Andy Macdonald is the lucky recipient of the firm’s backing, as AMZN intros a subsection on its website – Action Sports -which offers sports equipment.

It’s a new broadcasting war, as Comcast’s (NASDAQ:CMCSA) NBCUniversal will to directly go up against Disney’s (NYSE:DIS) ESPN at the beginning of 2013, when its Versus network officially becomes NBC Sports Network. But before that, the repositioning of NBC as the go-to sports destination begins in July with coverage of the London Summer Olympics. NBC Sports Network will be promoted with a vengeance, but it will have to share coverage with Bravo, CNBC, MSNBC, and Telemundo.

Details emerge concerning the split of News Corp. (NASDAQ:NWS). Wal-Mart (NYSE:WMT) continues its invasion of Canada, as plans to begin offering discounts over a large array of products via its Wal-Mart Canada divisions are revealed. Additionally the hyper- retailer is expanding many of its existing stores into supercenters, which will be able to market more grocery items.
