Consumer Biz Recap: UPS Knocks on EU Commission, MGM Loves Maryland

Time Warner’s (NYSE:TWX) HBO network will broadcast a documentary this week on former President George H.W. Bush, while at the same time apologizing for the display of a severed head of President George W. Bush in a rapid background shot from a scene on Game of Thrones. To make matters worse, the mischief wasn’t merely a poorly thought out play by some intern, but was acknowledged by producers in their remarks in the show’s released DVD. It might be well to keep in mind that the Secret Service is not particularly known for its sense of humor!

Isn’t this deal done by now? UPS (NYSE:UPS) requests the okay of the European Commission in order to move forward with its $6.6 billion acquisition of TNT Express. Most observers believe that the agency will require a more thorough inquiry in order to determine which further concessions UPS will have to make. However, other rumors have it that a final decision could be had by July 20th.

MGM Resorts (NYSE:MGM) reports that it and Peterson Companies will jointly develop a resort casino at National Harbor in Maryland, which will be located on 350 acres of real estate on the Potomac River, and will serve the Washington DC metropolitan area.
