Big grocery companies could have challengers, as Family Dollar Store’s (NYSE:FDO) earnings call revealed that consumers appear to be choosing discounters for food items at an increasing rate. The discount company said that its sales of food items rose more than 10 percent year-over-year with its private labels beating the national brands. Stocks thus on watch include Kroger (NYSE:KR), Supervalu (NYSE:SVU), Safeway (NYSE:SWY), and Winn-Dixie Stores (NASDAQ:WINN).
