Japan is the second largest buyer of luxury goods, even though it ranks tenth in population.

Shares of Nordstrom (NYSE:JWN) rise as its executives exhibit a promising picture for growth, at the Piper Jaffray Consumer Conference. Highlights include the company’s credit cards trending 50 percent higher, strong growth, and the fact that new mobile shopping programs are also becoming accretive.
Wal-Mart’s (NYSE:WMT) Pay with Cash option is driving a rise in sales, says executive Joel Anderson. The new initiative enables shoppers to order products from its website and then pick them up in stores within two weeks, as opposed to waiting for a home delivery. In addition, WMT has installed a new search engine on its website along with mobile technology to help keep shoppers engaged.
