Cicsco sued TiVo on Wednesday and alleges that the company refuses to grant a broad license for its technology due to the fact that it would interfere with TiVo’s ability to enter into lawsuits over its patents. According to a spokeswoman for Cicsco, the lawsuit attempts to defend the company’s DVR products and stop TiVo from wrongfully claiming patent infringement.

TiVo sells DVR boxes and licenses its technology through companies such as Charter Communications Inc. (NASDAQ:CHTR) and DIRECTV (NASDAQ:DTV) while Cicsco sells DVRs through Scientific Atlanta to companies including AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T), Time Warner Inc. (NYSE:TWX), and Verizon Communications Inc.
