Bank of Nova Scotia (NYSE:BNS) reports an EPS of C$1.69 for the FQ3, which beats expectations by $0.49, and is up 5.5 percent year-on-year excluding items such as sale of its headquarters. The bank hikes its dividend by $0.02 to C$0.57 per share.

International Business Machines‘ (NYSE:IBM) supercomputer ‘Watson’ gained fame for beating “Jeopardy!” champions. IBM wants to take that forward and address the computer’s capabilities in commercial applications that could earn revenues in the billions. Watson is already processing financial data for Citigroup (NYSE:C) and cancer data for WellPoint (NYSE:WLP). Smartphone apps may be next in line.
