AT&T, Inc. (NYSE:T) continued its 4G LTE rollout this week, which fires up its ultra-fast network in sections of Florida and Massachusetts, as well as expanding coverage in a number of other areas. AT&T turned on its 4G LTE network located in Miami, West Palm Beach, and Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Also, the carrier launched coverage in Worcester, Mass. and several surrounding communities, including parts of nearby Auburn, Boylston, Grafton, Holden, Leicester, Millbury, Oxford, Northborough, North Oxford, Paxton, Shrewsbury, Westborough, and West Boylston. The expansion shows that AT&T’s 4G LTE network currently covers 51 markets. The shares traded up $1.02 (2.90%) recently at $36.35.
Sprint Nextel Corp. (NYSE:S) stated that the Sprint platform added 442,000 net postpaid customers in Q2, and The Nextel platform lost 688,000 net postpaid customers in Q2. Sprint platform postpaid net additions and Nextel platform postpaid net subscriber losses include 431,000 net subscribers from the Nextel platform which were acquired on the Sprint platform. The company added 141,000 net prepaid subscribers during the quarter, including net additions of 451,000 prepaid Sprint platform customers, offset by net losses of 310,000 prepaid Nextel platform customers. Sprint platform prepaid net additions and Nextel platform prepaid net losses show 143,000 net subscribers from the Nextel platform acquired on the Sprint platform. The company reported net additions of 388,000 wholesale and affiliate subscribers as a result of growth in MVNOs reselling prepaid services for the quarter. The shares traded up $0.69 (20.47%) recently at $4.06.
Vodafone Group plc (NASDAQ:VOD): Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) is to launch its new RBS 6000 technology in Vodafone (NASDAQ:VOD) Egypt’s network, which enables the operator to satisfy the demands of its increasing base of subscribers. The RBS 6000 is a compact site solution supporting GSM/EDGE, WCDMA/HSPA and LTE in a single package. The shares traded up $0.75 (2.72%) recently at $28.31.
MetroPCS Communications, Inc. (NYSE:PCS) currently predicts that it will incur capital expenditures in the range of $900million to $1 billion on a consolidated basis for the year, ending December 31, 2012. The shares traded up $2.31 (36.78%) recently at $8.59.
Alcatel-Lucent, S.A. (NYSE:ALU) announced an additional global headcount decrease of nearly 5,000 people. The company stated that it is exiting or restructuring Managed Services contracts, which did not make profit, with associated headcount reduction. The shares traded down $0.03 (3.30%) recently at $1.02.
