International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE:IBM) tech has been licensed by United Microelectronics, for the purpose of expediting the development of the foundry’s next generation 20nm CMOS process with FinFET 3D transistors. Under the arrangement, IBM will license its 20nm process design kit and FinFET technology to UMC, so that the foundry can employ these technologies so as to accelerate the availability of these processes for UMC customers. This agreement between UMC and IBM is only inclusive of IBM’s 20nm CMOS and FinFET. Implementation will take place at the company’s Tainan, Taiwan research and development site.

JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE:JPM) shares fell following a report released by the New York Times Thursday, in which it was said that the loss sustained in May might have been far larger than first reported.
3M Company’s. (NYSE:MMM) 3M Unitek and 3M Deutschland GmbH have served Guangzhou Riton Biomaterial with a lawsuit which alleges infringement of 3M’s patent related to lingual orthodontic braces. The plaintiffs are alleging infringement against Riton’s e-Brace lingual bracket system and asking that the court enjoin Riton from infringing its patent and award damages. 3M is committed to protecting its intellectual property and patent portfolio while it continues to invest in extensive research and new laboratory methods to improve orthodontic solutions for patients.
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is among companies which are pressuring Research In Motion’s (NASDAQ:RIMM) board to think over options such as selling its network business or forming an alliance with Microsoft, after it once again postponed the release of its next-generation smartphone.
AT&T, Inc. (NYSE:T) announces that has appointed Scott T. Ford to its board of directors, and that he will serve on AT&T’s Corporate Development and Finance Committee, and Public Policy and Corporate Reputation Committee. Currently. Mr. Ford is a partner with Westrock Capital Partners, LLC and Westrock Coffee Holdings, LLC and is also a former chief executive officer of Alltel Corporation.
