If reports of orders with two Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) equipment suppliers are to be believed, the company has lined up a blockbuster second half of the year for its fans. A report in the Taiwanese technology blog DigiTimes reports says orders suggest a 7-inch mini iPad will be released in August, a new iPhone will come in September, and the next-generation iPad will follow in the fourth quarter.
Don’t Miss: Will Apple Pay For This iPod Mistake?
The smaller iPad will reportedly be manufactured by Foxconn, while Pegatron Technology has landed orders for the iPhone and the standard-sized iPad, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers. Pegatron is already an equipment manufacturer for the iPhone 4S and the new iPad.
The report adds that Pegatron expanded its equipment and labor force to cater to Apple’s orders and is also downsizing its SI motherboard department to free up further resources. This also makes business sense for the company, since Asustek has reduced its motherboard orders to Pegatron, dropping its gross margins. Asustek also released 277 million Pegatron shares to help further separate the two firms.
Pegatron also makes notebooks for Toshiba, Acer, Lenovo, and Fujitsu.
Foxconn is Apple’s largest overseas manufacturing partner and started construction of a new 10,000-square meter operational headquarters in Shanghai, China, scheduled to be completed in 2015.
Speculation that Apple has a mini iPad in line for release has been widespread, but DigiTimes predictions can be hit-or-miss.
