The next-generation iPad will take design cues from the iPad mini, while the updated iPhone will feature a larger rear flash. Those details were mentioned by the blog iLounge, which said it inspected a “supposedly accurate” model of Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) fifth-generation iPad.
The tablet will be launched in October, according to the blog, putting the iPad back into an annual upgrade cycle. The device will feature the new Sharp IGZO display panel, which will make it “noticeably thinner,” the blog said.
“This iPad 5 design is so much smaller that a full internal redesign — complete with a smaller, less power-hungry sequel to the A6X — can be safely assumed,” the report said. “It wouldn’t be a surprise to see the new iPad remain roughly on par with the fourth-generation model in processing capabilities, with the improved screen, dramatically lower size, and reduced weight becoming the key selling points.”
In addition, the next-generation iPhone will be accompanied by a separate smartphone featuring a plastic body. This low-cost device has been much discussed by Apple watchers over the past few days as the company’s attempt to grow in emerging markets such as China. The blog post added that a so-called “iPhone Math” is actually a mistranslation of “iPhone +,” a test device with a 4.7-inch screen that’s Apple’s Plan B to take on Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android handsets.
