Citing an unnamed industry source, the DigiTimes is reporting that Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Samsung have plans to install some form of wireless charging capability for upcoming phones produced in 2013. The unverified report states via DigiTimes that “Apple is likely to adopt the wireless charging technology developed internally, but it remains unknown if the next-generation iPhone will come with built-in wireless charging capability or with other attached accessories.”
Although the DigiTimes has a mixed record at best when it comes to predicting future functions for Apple devices, this does seem to be in line with an AppleInsider report from November on a wireless power transfer patent application that was filed by Apple with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The patent filing read in part that it would provide “a realistic and practical approach to wireless transferring [of] useable amounts of power over distances suitable for limited applications”…
