Apple Inc: Mobile App Downloads Explode

Mobile app downloads are still climbing: downloads for the top 200 free Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS apps rose 15 percent M/M and 83 percent Y/Y in November to 5.65 million per day, according to estimates by mobile marketing firm Fiksu.

In October, ABI estimated downloads in 2011 would increase to 29 billion industry-wide. The atmosphere is allowing for the success of new players like Rovio and Square, and supporting existing web giants such as eBay (NASDAQ:EBAY), Facebook and Pandora (NYSE:P).

According to analysts, Apple is on track to sell 30 million iPhones by the end of this year, and with many new iPhones showing up under Christmas trees this week, it is likely that app downloads will continue to soar in December.

“Comparing this November to a year ago, it’s remarkable to note that app download volumes have increased by an impressive 83 percent, highlighting the colossal expansion of mobile apps in just twelve months,” notes Fiksu.
