Apple in Talks with LG for HD Displays and 3 More Hot Stocks
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL): Digitimes is reporting that Apple is reportedly in discussions with LG (NYSE:LPL) about buying 55 and 65-inch Ultra HD TV panels, though “the rumors state that Apple is still testing the technology and has yet to finalize its orders with LG.” The same rumors also indicate that Apple could also be in talks with Sharp for similar products.
Vivus (NASDAQ:VVUS): Following “the ugliest proxy fight in biotech,” Vivus and hedge fund First Manhattan have reportedly reached an agreement. Vivus will have four directors on the board, with former AstraZeneca (NYSE:AZN) executive Tony Zook taking the helm as CEO. First Manhattan will get seven nominees on an expanded 11-member board.
Vodafone Group (NASDAQ:VOD): First quarter organic service revenue fell 3.5 percent, to 10.155 billion pounds. Sales to Northern and Central Europe slid 3 percent due to “competitive intensity“, with the U.K. dropping 4.5 percent, and Germany falling 5.1 percent. Regionally, southern Europe declined 14.4 percent, with Italy down 17.6, and Spain down 10.6. However, strong growth in Africa, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific region helped offset weaker European performance. The company reiterated its full-year outlook, expecting to complete the 7.7 billion euro acquisition of Kabel Deutschland by the end of the year.
Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE:CMG): Chipotle posted strong gains in the 2013 second quarter, with EPS of $2.82, an increase of 10.2 percent, and revenue of $816.8 million — up 18.2 percent year-over-year, and beating by $13.48 million. Comparable restaurant sales rose 5.5 percent, and net income also increased 7.6 percent, helping offset the restaurant level operating margin slip of 160 basis points. A price target hike by Piper Jaffray, from $360 to $450, helped push shares over 6 percent.
