AOL, Inc. (NYSE:AOL): This past weekend, AOL, Inc. unveiled a redesign of their Patch hyper local news network which has struggled to make a profit. The new Patch, though, is still a work in progress and just does not seem ready for prime time. One of the beta sites covering a town on Long Island, N.Y., does have some interesting ideas that are based around “groups” focused on particular subjects such as schools or local business. Readers can form their own group as well and editors’ picks are shown at the center of the page. The problem is that much of the content was not particularly unique or even interesting.
Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX): Netflix, Inc.’s (NASDAQ:NFLX) Chief Executive Officer and co-founder Reed Hastings, in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, was asked what he’s telling investors so they’ll stay with the company.”We’re not doing anything really different, nor are we saying anything different,” he said. “Over 20 years, Internet video is going to rise very steadily across many sectors. If an investor believes that Internet video with its pure on-demand model, is the future of video, then Netflix will become a very interesting part of their portfolio.” Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ:CMCSA): Comcast Corporation’s Houston office is expanding and the Philadelphia-based cable communications company is moving forward by reorganizing their call center model and shutting one down in California.
