A report from research firm McKinsey & Co says that a third of electric vehicle owners in Japan may not repeat their purchase because of disillusionment with infrastructure, such as lack of charging stations, as well as higher electric bills. This could affect the fortunes of electric car manufacturers such as Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) in the USA if the trend crosses over. Sales of electric cars in the U.S. have been under-performing estimates and manufacturers have become shy of making large-scale investments in plants that manufacture pure electric vehicles, preferring hybrid vehicles instead. Even federal tax credits have not had the desired impact in pushing sales; the outlook becomes cloudier given that these credits would be withdrawn sometime in the future.
