In an effort to get them running longer on a single battery charge, a key requirement for mobile devices these days, Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) is reducing the power consumption on its all-important Core line of processors from 17 watts to 10 watts. This, however, may not be sufficient for devices such as the iPad which run without cooling fans and would ideally require processors that consume only 4 watts of power, say analysts.
Bankruptcy Judge Sean Lane approved AMR’s (AAMRQ.PK) request for cancellation of a labor contract with its pilots, deeming it a part of the airline’s restructuring. This is major boost for AMR, given that the pilots turned down a proposal last month, and AMR sought changes regarding to terms for laid-off pilots and code-sharing.
Car dealer AutoNation (NYSE:AN) saw robust sales during August. New retail sales were 23,213 units, up 28 percent, while the imported segment reported a 42 percent jump.
U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein said a trial is required to determine whether insurance covered the loss of the towers claimed by World Trade Center Properties LLC; American Airlines (AAMRQ.PK) and United Continental (NYSE:UAL) will therefore face a trial over the 9-11 towers destruction over whether their actions were negligent and led to the damage.
Jonathan Gray, global head of real estate at Blackstone (NYSE:BX), brushes off concerns that the humongous size of the firm’s latest $13.3 billion property fund may lead to lower returns, as per past trends, saying the current environment was terrific for generating attractive returns.
