<p><strong>Actual vs. Wall St. Expectations:</strong> American Water Works Company, Inc. reported adjusted EPS income of $0.31 per share. By that measure, the company missed the mean analyst estimate of $0.34. It missed the average revenue estimate of $699.64 million.</p>
<p><strong>Quoting Management:</strong> &#8220;2012 was a year of very strong financial performance on all fronts, with a 20 percent increase in earnings per share from continuing operations,&#8221; said Jeff Sterba, president and CEO of American Water. &#8220;While sales were increased by abnormally hot, dry weather in the summer, EPS from continuing operations still increased 12 to 14 percent after adjusting for this estimated weather impact.&#8221;</p>
