American Electric (NYSE:AEP): Prairie Wind Transmission, a transmission joint venture including American Electric Power (NYSE:AEP), MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company, and Westar Energy (NYSE:WR) began constructing 108 miles of new double-circuit, 345-kilovolt transmission lines in south-central Kansas. The $180 million Prairie Wind Transmission project will extend from Colwich, Kan., southwest to a new substation located at Medicine Lodge, Kan., and then south to Hardtner, Kan., at the Kansas-Oklahoma border. the project is expected to be completed in late 2014. AEP has projected $466 million in transmission capital investment during 2012 via its transmission companies and joint ventures as well as an 8c per share contribution to 2012 earnings from its transmission operations. The shares closed at $42.18, down $0.06 or 0.14% on the day. They have traded in a 52-week range of $33.09 to $42.71.

Amylin Pharmaceutica (NASDAQ:AMLN): The expiration of the HSR waiting period satisfies one of the conditions to the tender offer, which is set to expire at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, August 7, 2012, unless extended in accordance with the merger agreement and the applicable SEC rules and regulations. The closing of the tender offer is subject to customary terms and conditions, including that they be validly tendered a number of shares that makes up at least a majority of Amylin’s outstanding shares of common stock determined on a fully-diluted basis. The shares closed at $30.96, up $0.17 or 0.55% on the day. They have traded in a 52-week range of $8.03 to $30.92.
American Tower Corp. (NYSE:AMT): Crown Castle (NYSE:CCI) recently emerged as lead bidder for towers, which is being sold by T-Mobile (DTEGY), according to the Wall Street Journal. A deal for over $2 billion may be struck soon, according to sources. Other bidders are American Tower (NYSE:AMT) and Global Tower Partners. The shares closed at $71.56, down $0.75 or 1.04% on the day. They have traded in a 52-week range of $46.04 to $73.04.
Armour Residential R (AMEX:ARR): As of June 30, 2012 book value was $1.3 billion or $7.04 per common share outstanding. The shares closed at $7.65, down $0.01 or 0.13% on the day. They have traded in a 52-week range of $5.40 to $7.82.
