Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN): Amazon.com is about to launch another attack on brick and mortar stores. What stores are in their sites? Home and sporting goods with names like Bed, Bath and Beyond (NASDAQ:BBBY) and Dick’s Sporting Goods (NYSE:DKS). Simeon Gutman, of Credit Suisse, is reporting that Amazon intends to launch Casa.com for home goods and has not yet named its sporting goods site. Gutman cited previous moves by Amazon.com into pet products with Wag.com and toys with YoYo.com.

Certainly there is a market for consumers who want to sit and click when they shop. Does that include giving up a trip to a nearby home goods or sporting goods store? Some of us still want to see what it is that we are buying. Some of us don’t want to wait for shipping, when we can pick up an item the same day.

Of course, it will depend not only on price, but what retailers offer customers. Are consumers more likely to make impulse buys while online at Amazon or while shopping at a store? Gutman says, ““E-commerce growth in this category has been hindered primarily by brands and lack of a good site…” Retailers Bed, Bath and Beyond (NASDAQ:BBBY) and Dick’s Sporting Goods (NYSE:DKS) are down today, but so is Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN).
