Alcoa, Inc. (NYSE:AA) and Novelis, a division of India’s Hindalco Industries based in Atlanta, which are the world’s largest aluminum producers, are fighting for the 92.5 billion aluminum beverage cans made in the United States annually, according the Wall Street Journal. The two giants had formed a joint venture in 2009 for collecting and recycling the cans, processing some 40 billion in 2011, but they now have split up.

Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) has been chosen by NBN Co to supply equipment for its national data connectivity network. A creation of the Australian federal government, NBN Co will design, construct and operate the country’s wholesale-only, high-speed broadband network, known as the National Broadband Network, or NBN. Following a competitive tender, Cisco won the contract to provide Multi-Protocol Layer Switching on Cisco routers and firewalls in support of NBN Co’s National Connectivity Network in a deal estimated to be worth as much as $38 million over five years. Cisco intelligent network tech will be employed in NBN Co’s depot, aggregation nodes and other key locations, to support the Operations Support System and Business Support System, platforms, signaling and timing.
Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX): The International Organization of Securities Commissions had lobbied for stronger regulation of the physical oil market, but is now pulling back from its proposals under pressure from international organizations such as the IEA and OPEC and from oil players, says The Financial Times.
The Walt Disney Company’s (NYSE:DIS) ABC stations will begin running Everyday Health’s “Recipe Rehab”, which an online-video series funded by Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) YouTube video site next month. The site is being converted to a syndicated television show, which implies that made-for-Web content is finding new avenues offline and on TV, according to the Wall Street Journal.
