Alcatel-Lucent Scores Financing Pact and 4 Telecom Titans Attracting Interest

AT&T, Inc. (NYSE:T): According to comments to the FCC, major carriers that include Verizon Wireless (NYSE:VZ), AT&T Mobility, and T-Mobile USA generally voiced support for a next-generation 911 system, but it also suggested a number of issues in the implementation of such a service. In the filing, AT&T stated that a NG911 system would need more funding, and that the FCC and Congress should try to revamp the current funding system for 911. “AT&T believes that these public safety expenses should be funded through general revenues and that the burden of making 911 service access available to everyone should be borne equally. The commission should recommend to Congress that it explore ways of addressing this funding issue.”

Sprint Nextel Corp. (NYSE:S) already owns 50.45 percent of Clearwire, and it needs approval from those who hold 24.8 percent of Clearwire shares prior to it taking control of the company. Clearwire shareholder Crest Financial has criticized Sprint’s offer on Thursday as it stated via a public statement that the deal was not in the interests of Clearwire shareholders.

Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) has rolled out the Jelly Bean version of Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android operating system today to Samsung’s Galaxy S III flagship smartphone today, GIGAom reports. (NYSE:ALU) has obtained a $2.1 billion financing pact during its attempts to move forward and refinance debt. This deal has caused enthusiasm in the markets, as it has driven the French company’s shares up nearly 10 percent during premarket trading. Alcatel-Lucent has secured 1.615 billion euros ($2.1 billion) in financing from both Credit Suisse (NYSE:CS) and Goldman Sachs (NYSE:GS)
