The small SUV and crossover crowd has seen tremendous growth over the past few years, fueled by demand for functional, capable vehicles that don’t guzzle fuel like full-size SUVs. As the crossover segment becomes increasingly popular, manufacturers are facing mounting competition, and as a result, the segment has just gotten better and better.
The esteemed automotive authority Kelley Blue Book has complied a list of some of the best buys for this class. Here are nine of them, each discussed in their base trim — fully equipped models may run more than the $25,000 threshold. The Encore brings all the positives from General Motors’s (NYSE:GM) larger SUVs and puts them into a smaller, better handling format. KBB calls it “comfortable, maneuverable and well-finished,” and the car also boasts fuel economy at 25 miles per gallon in the city and 33 miles per gallon on the highway.
