6 Golden Globe Nomination Shockers
Last week, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced its nominations for the 71st Golden Globe Awards. This annual ceremony honors both television and film, and often provides insight as to what movies will be nominated for the Academy Awards. While many of the nominees — such as 12 Years a Slave, American Hustle, and Breaking Bad – were expected, there were a few nominations and omissions that took Hollywood by surprise. Here’s our list of six Golden Globe shockers.
1. Tatiana Maslany
Critics and fans of the BBC America series Orphan Black have been very vocal in their praise for its breakout star, Tatiana Maslany. The Canadian actress has already won the Critics’ Choice Television Award and TCA Award for her performance as multiple clones on the science fiction program. But the Golden Globes often favor films and television shows that appeal to a mainstream audience, and Orphan Black is more of a cult favorite. So it was to the shock and delight of many – including Maslany — when she earned a nomination for Best Actress in a TV Series, Drama.
